2010 Dowsett Family Devotion Columbia Valley
37% SYRAH– 32% GRENACHE– 31% MOURVEDRE
The Morrison Lane Vineyard 1999 block provided all the Walla Walla Valley Syrah. Kiona’s Heart of The Hill Vineyard, on Red Mountain, is the home of the Mourvedre. Grenache from the Destiny Ridge Vineyard, in the Horse Heaven Hills was the final ingredient in the blend.
The fruit was hand picked into small bins. Fermentations were completed in ¾ ton, insulated bins, to maximize heat and extraction. The different lots were kept separate until summer blending. 12.5% new French Oak barrels were used for the aging process. The wine was bottled in August of 2011.
The wine has intense primary black fruit and spice aromas. Wonderful balance and complexity fill the palate with berries, black pepper and vanilla. This wine will stand up to meals with lamb, venison or other wild game, yet fit nicely with an herbed poultry dish. The finished wine is 3.79 pH, with 5.9 g/100ml T.A. and 14.7% alcohol by volume. We produced only 185 cases of this wine.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
#213 6/14 JD: “…the 2010 Devotion is rock-solid and is made from 37% Syrah, 32% Grenache and 31% Mourvedre. Medium-bodied, balanced and nicely put together, with a clean, focused textured, it delivers plenty of blackberry, earth, briar underbrush and hints of game in a balanced, age-worthy package. Enjoy bottles over the coming decade or so. 90 points.”
