Wine Press Northwest

Wine Press Northwest has just named the Dowsett Family 2007 Gewurztraminer “Celilo Vineyard” as their Wine of the Week for December 23, 2008.  The wine will also receive an Outstanding rating in their upcoming Winter 2008 edition.  The magazine states:

Dowsett Family Winery 2007 Celilo Vineyard Gewurztraminer

Appellation: Columbia Gorge

Outstanding! Chris Dowsett spent years at Canoe Ridge Vineyard in Walla Walla, which focused its Gewurz project in the Columbia Gorge, so he knows this acclaimed 24-year-old site in Underwood, Wash. The stunning results, achieved with 0.5% residual sugar, prompted one judge to comment “the Northwest goes to Alsace.” Wonderful floral characters of rose water, honeysuckle, pears and mango gush out on the palate with more tropical notes. Grapefruity midpalate acidity and a citrus pith finish make this a marvelous wine. Rated “Outstanding” by Wine Press Northwest magazine.

Price: $22.

Cases produced: 100.

Food matches: Pair with a rich chicken dish such coq au vin or lemon risotto

We wish to thank the reveiwers for this early Christmas present!

Wine Enthusiast Review

The December 15, 2008 issue of the Wine Enthusiast includes a very kind review of the 2007 Dowsett Family Celilo Vineyard Gewürztraminer:

“92 POINTS - Dowsett Family 2007 Celilo Vineyard Gewürztraminer (Columbia Gorge);  $22.  These vines were planted in 1984;  they are dry-farmed with all-natural acids, most unusual for Washington State.  So you have a beguiling mix of aromatic, lightly soapy, perfumed, floral scents, matched to exotic passion fruit and grapefruity citrus.  There is a lot of acid here, and it’s a young wine, but it has wonderful concentration and a full-throttle mix of perfume, fruit and flesh.  The finish seems endless, and promises a long life ahead.  Editors’ Choice. - P.G.”

The Gewurztraminer has been released!

We have released the Gewurztraminer!  It is the initial release for the Dowsett Family Winery.  The fruit was grown in the 1984 block of the beautiful Celilo Vineyard.  This is our only white wine and there are only 100 cases.  The 2007 is a full-bodied, dry white wine that has the acidity to stand up to an amazing array of food pairings.  Try this wine with spicy Thai, fresh seafood, or just a glass and some hard cheese.

Please contact us to purchase this wine, or to be placed on the mailing list. The wine retails at $22 a bottle and we offer a 10% case discount.

In Oregon, our wines are carried by D’vine Distribution, ask for it at your local wine shop or restaurant.

In Seattle, you can find it at McCarthy & Schiering. Please also take a look at the very nice mention in their newsletter at http://mccarthyandschiering.com/pdf/McCarthy&Schiering_Sept2008.pdf

We hope you enjoy this wine as much as we do.
