Stepen Tanzer Ratings

Issue 147, November/December 2009

Dowsett Family Winery

Stephen Tanzer

2008 Gewurztraminer Celilo Vineyard Columbia Gorge ($22; from a block of vines planted in 1984) Very pale yellow. High-toned aromas of nectarine, lime and mint. Juicy and just off-dry (4.8 grams r.s. per liter), with subtle stone fruit flavors complicated by spices and a suggestion of marzipan. Boasts plenty of ripeness and body to give it considerable appeal, along with the fresh acidity to provide flexibility at the dinner table. 88

2007 Devotion Red Wine Columbia Valley ($30; a blend of syrah, mourvedre and grenache)Good full, deep red. Musky raspberry, soy sauce and pepper on the nose. Fat and sweet if a bit jammy, combining red fruits from the grenache with meaty mourvedre and peppery, floral syrah.  The raspberry flavor carries through to the finish, which features dusty tannins. Relatively little new oak used here. A bit ripe for me, but clearly a bottling-and a winery-to watch. 87

Wine Advocate Review

2007  Dowsett Family Winery Devotion Red Wine
A Proprietary Blend Dry  Red Table wine from ,,Columbia Valley,Washington,USA

Review by Jay Miller
Wine Advocate # 185 (Oct 2009)
Rating: 89
Drink 2009 - 2017
Cost: $30

The deep crimson-colored 2007 Devotion Red Wine is a blend of 52% Syrah, 26% Mourvedre, and 22% Grenache. Aromas of spice box, underbrush, incense, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur lead to an elegant, spicy, velvety-textured wine that has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. Drink this attractive effort through 2017. Tel. (509) 520-8215; www.dowsettwine.com

Wine Enthusiast Rating

Published by Chris under 2007 Devotion, Winemakers Blog

Thank you to the August 2009 issue of the Wine Enthusiast for their lastest review.

89 Dowsett Family 2007 Devotion Red Wine (Columbia Valley); $28.

A Chateauneuf-style, ruby red blend of 52% Syrah 26% Mourvèdre and 22% Grenache. Lots of spice and black pepper to complement the bright red fruits. Still very young and not-quite resolved; the aromatics have a fresh cut lumber smell, though very little new oak was actually used in the wine. Give it some time to knit together, or decant well before drinking.

Release of the Devotion!

Published by Chris under 2007 Devotion, Winemakers Blog

Devotion Label

Devotion Label

We would like to announce the release of our first red wine.  The 2007 Devotion is our tribute to the varieties, vineyards and wines we love.  This is a Rhone/Spanish/South Australian style blend.  It is composed of 52% Syrah from the Morrison Lane Vineyard in Walla Walla, 26% Mourvedrefrom Kiona’s Heart of the Hill Vineyard on Red Mountain, and 22% Grenache from Destiny Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills.

Three varieties, three vineyards, three Appellations, and three families that manage the vines for us.

This wine is an aromatic beauty that will draw you in for a taste.  The mouth is a big, complex blend of jam from the Syrah, black pepper from the Mourvedre, and spice from the Grenache.  This is a perfect complement to the cuisine of the Pacific Northwest.  Try it with grilled game, hearty vegetables or rich seafood tonight!

The wine has been shipped to our Portland Distributor: D’Vine Wines, Boston area Distributor: Vineyard Road, and will soon be available in Seattle.

We retail the wine for $30.00, and are newly set up for Visa and Mastercard orders.  Drop us an email at info@dowsettwines.com if you are in need.
